    Both with black and gilt Japanned decoration, raised on cabriole leg with exaggerated paw foot, the two door cabinet with scrolled broken pediment above "one pediment replaced with a naive, possibly estate made copy", the doors open to reveal the decorated interior with central mirror plate and pocket watch holder above, flanked by two open pigeon holes and four short drawers and two long drawers below, the base unit open to multiple storage some with lift of covers, single drawer below with adjustable writing slope. Although clearly made to be used in the same scheme the scale and decoration differs from one to the other but does not from the overall effect. Historic repairs and losses.     Islington, London; furniture manufacturers (fl. 1860-1900)

    Furniture Gazette: Classified List of the Furniture, Upholstery, and Allied Trades as Art Furniture Manufacturers and Cabinet Makers at 2 Northampton Street, Islington. Dyer & Watts were later known are manufacturers of quality bedroom suites which were supplied to West End shops at the end of the 19th century. The firm registered many decorative wardrobes from early 1860s onwards and pioneered the respectability of cheap wood painted in imitation of inlay. A painted pine bedroom suite, exhibited in the Paris Exhibition of 1867, was purchased from them by the Empress Eugenie of France.
